Thai-NIH holds 2010 IANPHI Annual Meeting at Luang Phrabang, Lao PDR

This annual meeting was held on the collaborative project entitled “Strengthening the regional capacity to detect and respond to emerging diseases in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Thailand” which is a three-year project undergone through Thai National Institute of Health with a grant by IANPHI (International Association of National Public Health Institutes). The meeting was organized at Phousi Hotel, Luang Phrabang during January 17 – 20, 2011.

The primary objectives of the meeting were (1) to review activities operated in the second year, (2) to have a detailed discussion on the action plan of each collaborating institute for the last year (3) to develop a follow up action for the project as a consequence.
The meeting has brought together national representatives from Cambodia, Lao and Thailand. Dr. Sathaporn  Wongjaroen, Director General of DMSc, and Dr. Pathom  Sawanpanyalert, Deputy Director of DMSc were invited as well as distinguished guests of the meeting.

National Center for Laboratory and Epidemiology (NCLE), Lao PDR has reviewed activities and achievements done in the institute during the past two years. National Institute of Public Health (NIPH), Cambodia also presented their activities and current status of laboratory capacity including their views towards essential areas needed for improvement. As the inter-country coordinator and supporter, National Institute of Health, (NIH), Thailand, has raised some key points concerning strengthening the biosafety system and occupational health management to all participants on the floors in which Thai-NIH has always been emphasized for its institutional development.
